Based at Silverstone Circuit, and led by experienced ex-professional racing driver and Team Owner Mike O’Brien, Speedsport Historic Racing is one of the leading outfits in the fields of Historic Racing car preparation, restoration, maintenance and race-track support.

We have an enviable record of success over many years, winning multiple Historic Racing Championships and scoring significant victories in our Historic Formula Ford, Formula Junior and Historic Formula 3 cars, including a double win for our Brabham BT6 at the 2022 Silverstone Classic, driven by Michael O’Brien.

Michael and Samuel Harrison took our team cars to 26 victories in the 2022 season, across the HFF, HF3 and Formula Junior categories, and both these drivers are available to act as driver coaches for our customers. We enjoyed similar success in 2023 winning the Historic Formula 3 Championship with our new ly restored, ex Peter Westbury Brabham BT21B, taking a total of 13 victories

We operate to exacting standards and our team of highly skilled and motivated technicians build and prepare both customers’ cars and our team cars to the highest possible standards.

Speedsport Historic Racing can also provide a unique opportunity for drivers to enjoy racing Merlyn machinery in the exciting world of Historic Formula Ford, safe in the knowledge that their equipment is prepared and maintained to the highest possible standards by a friendly and passionate team.

This service is also available in Historic Formula 3 and Formula Junior for suitably qualified and financed competitors.

Get behind the wheel of a historic racing car

Speedsport can offer the opportunity for suitable financed and qualified drivers to compete in our Merlyn Historic Formula Ford Cars, Brabham and Chevron Historic F3 cars and Lotus and Brabham Formula Junior cars.

We have over 35 years of experience in the sport, and can also help novice drivers make the first steps in racing — we take care of everything you need to obtain your racing licence, train and develop you as a racing driver and then provide you with a turnkey professional service using our stable of cars for testing and racing throughout the UK and Europe.

We provide a complete pro package to enable you to race in a friendly yet professional team with immaculately prepared cars and the minimum ‘hassle’ and maximum enjoyment for yourself as a driver.

We can provide our cars for an initial test day, a particular race meeting or for the entire season depending upon your budget and time available.

We have a well structured programme of driver training, which includes in-car camera and data logging equipment, so that your driving skills and confidence progress rapidly and you can quickly be competitive in a racing situation.

Speedsport also prepare and maintain customer cars to the same professional standards, so you can race with us using your own machinery as required.

Historic Formula Ford races take place at very well supported Historic Sports Car Club [HSCC] race meetings throughout the UK — we regularly race at top venues such as Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Donington and Oulton Park.
